The Reshuffle

Life deals us a hand of cards and God guides us as to how to play them. For me, those cards were reshuffled and the new cards are not so hot. I have a hand now that has the card of heart issues and the card of cancer. The heart turns out to be manageable and the cancer we are managing with hope. You may want all Aces. I have a bunch of twos and threes.
Get the cancer remission and there is a window. I liken it to the mice which attack the house when it gets cold in October. They want warmth and set up their outpost inside. What a pain! You seek to get rid of them….
But you know they will probably return come next October. If not this October, probably next. That is how I see this cancer. Hopefully, I can get rid of it.. and then there is a window. And maybe it does not come back. I suspect everyone with cancer has that hope.
So it is tick tock. Actually, it is tick tock for every one of us. Isn’t that so? Just gets to be louder once we face serious ills. And how will we spend the time we have… Alas the grand question that life asks us.
Squeeze the gift.
My plans for bike racing are nyet for now but next summer sits there as a possibility if all goes well. Tick, tock. At 71 there are not too many of those tick tocks left. But the silence has not happened yet.
Be a blessing... be an inspiration... be an encourager. I have the most bullet proof excuses ever for “the comfortable life.” It is so tempting to eat, drink and be lazy. And I have my moments. But that is not where I find the most gratifying and meaningful life, nor is it what I think God calls me to. Frankly, I do not believe God made us to sit.
I will play the cards I have. No sense in walking away from the table. You don’t win unless you play.
Go win your day. Play well. May God be your guide.
